US Olympic Training Center in San Diego
Tip of the Week: July 7, 2007 Tucked in the southwest corner of San Diego County and another great secret, even for San Diego residents, is the ARCO Olympic Training Center. The warm weather ARCO Olympic Training Center is open 365 days per year and it can take 1-2 hours to get a sense of what it is all about. The 150 acre complex trains over 4,000 athletes per year. They train for archery, rowing, canoeing, soccer, softball, field hockey, track and field, tennis and cycling. FACT: The Olympic Training Center sent 86 atheletes to the Games in Athens, Greece Want to take the free tour? The guided public tours are at 1:30pm Tuesday- Saturday. The tour begins with a ten minute viewing of an inspirational video documenting Olympic history. It continues with a 45 minute walk down the Olympic Path where visitors will get to see the different sport venues, support facilities, and, possibly athletes training. Self-guided tours are also available 10:00 am- 5:00 pm seven days a week. Pick up the informational sheet located on the table in the Visitor Center and begin the walk down the Olympic Path. The Olympic Spirit Store, of course, sells Olympic spirit items and proceeds go toward supporting the athletes.
