San Diego has a few popular "antique rows." The big three include: Adam's Avenue in the mid-city community of Normal Heights, the coast community of Ocean Beach, and the Village of La Mesa - all cater to the antique and vintage lovin' crowd.

All three of these antique centers have a variety of collectibles from furniture to furnishings to art and crafts and of course, kitsch. Whatever the vintage treasure, antique shops are a great way to walk around, talk to folks, have a nice meal, and get a feel for our smaller San Diego communities. Each has a distinctive feel and appeal.

There are three major regions for antique shopping in San Diego County - Central San Diego, North County, and East County. Please note that this list does not include the antiques shops of Julian.

Another specialty antique shop, Nautical Antiques - Seajunk specializes in, you guessed it, antiques of all kinds having to do with maritime. If you are looking to obtain a nautical look for your home or office, this is the place to go to fill your cargo list. Don't hesitate to ask the friendly sales staff while you are getting your bearings. They know where to find what you are looking for. Wood, copper, and brass dominate the look of this funky shop located on a frontage road right off the I-5 just west of Mission Hills. It is located at 1891 San Diego Avenue which is south of Old Town. If you get lost, program 1-800-SEA-JUNK into your cell phone and give them a ring.

The Country Friends Consignment Shop in Rancho Santa Fe is the second antique shop that we would like to highlight. Located in one of San Diego County's most picturesque areas, Rancho Santa Fe, the Country Friends is worth the drive and once you step in their door, you will be so happy that you did. Country Friends" has been around for 47 years and have raised an amazing 12 million dollars for worthy human care nonprofit agencies in San Diego - 2/3 of this money has been raised directly from the sales from the Consignment Shop. The shop is located at the corner of El Tordo and Avenida de Acacias in Rancho Santa Fe.

The concept is simple: it is a consignment shop that is open to the public six days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is staffed by the Country Friends" volunteers. Donations or consignments are received from estates and individuals. The shop features silver, collectibles, art pieces, furniture, china, and crystal. Many long time San Diegans know that this is the place to go for ideas, gifts for others or for themselves. Imagine the satisfaction of purchasing something wonderful for yourself and, at the same time, you are enriching someone else's life.

The third and final shop worth a special mention is Architectural Salvage located in Little Italy right under the flight path on 2401 Kettner Boulevard. This is actually a new location for them but they have stayed in the same neighborhood of Little Italy. Architectural Salvage filled a niche that was missing in San Diego - where to buy vintage fixtures that could replace or enhance existing craftsmen, Victorian, and other period type homes in San Diego and beyond.

Service and selection is the key to Architectural Salvage's success. Someone is always on hand to provide expert advice and counsel with relation to selecting the right sconce for your home, the right claw foot tub, the right door, and for some, the perfect old bottle opener for your kitchen. The place is fun to browse and you might just find that certain crystal door knob that has eluded you for years. If you are the owner or renter of an old house or unit, Architectural Salvage can provide you with the items necessary to outfit your place.
