Beaches for sun seekers are located in La Jolla, Del Mar, Coronado and Mission Beach.

In Del Mar, the beaches are identified according to the street name such as 19th Street or 23rd Street. You can always tell which beach section you are at by looking for the banner that displays the name in front of the Lifeguard Towers. Any of the beaches in Del Mar are great for putting your towels or beach chairs down on the plentiful sandy beach. Be careful were you plant yourself on the sand because of the sand volleyball 'courts' located in various sections of this long beach.

In La Jolla, two (2) beaches top our choices for sun bathing. La Jolla Cove is a small protected beach that is tucked in between some sandstone cliffs. Its course sand combined with the relative quiet nature of the beach makes it one of our favorites for sunbathing. Divers are the main users of this beach because of its close proximity to the underwater reserve off of La Jolla. La Jolla Cove has a drop-off close to the shore which does not make it as kid-friendly, thus this beach does not attract as many children which makes for a quieter experience.

Approximately, 5 minutes south (by car) from La Jolla Cove, another great location for sunbathing is Windansea. This beach area is fairly long and features different beaches that vary in size according to the topography. Some beaches are larger than the others because they are not broken up by the sandstone formations. Like La Jolla Cove, Windansea has drop-offs that are close to shore so be careful. The Windansea beaches can be accessed at various points west of La Jolla Boulevard. A good starting point is to turn down Nautilus Street off of La Jolla Boulevard to scout the various places to park the car and park yourself. One of our favorite sunbathing locations in Windansea is right off this area - it is called Little Point and is located to the right of the surfer's shack.

In Mission Beach, the sun seeking is located all over this long stretch of sand. Mission Beach is a long and wide beach with plenty of sight seeing every day of the year. This is the kind of beach that attracts many party people so if you don't mind seeing a lot of action around you, then this is a good choice for you! It is very popular in the summer so arrive on the early side to get your space on the sand.

Coronado Beach has its loyalists! Some of the beach is short from the boardwalk to the shoreline. Look for the tall condo towers to lead you to that beach. If you like long stretches of sand with almost the feeling of walking across the desert, walk nothward on Coronado's shore and you will see the difference. If you like sand, park your car in the residential neighborhood north of the Hotel Del Coronado.
