Best Chinese Dim Sum in San Diego
Dim Sum, literally translated from the Cantonese, means "dot-hearts," small treats that touch the heart. Dim Sum are bite-sized portions served in small quantities, usually three or four to a plate, so that the diners can enjoy a variety of foods. Variety is one of the keys to Dim Sum and there can be up to 50 selections per day.
San Diego's best Dim Sum is served at Jasmine Seafood Restaurant.
Dim Sum is something of an experience with scads of servers ambling through the crowded banquent room, pushing carts loaded with Dim Sum offerings for eagle-eyed customers to point and select on the spot. You'll find mostly
Asian families crowded around the tables with the competing sounds of family chatter and the clattering plates. The idea is to pace yourself rather than to gorge on all the food at once. The servers keep coming around so you don't have to feel as if you will miss something. Do yourself a favor and save the fried food and steamed buns for last you so don't fill up prematurely. Dim Sum is truly an experience for all the senses.
The server will keep record of your selections by stamping the check with a special symbol. Each dish has a pre-set value. The check is totaled and there you have it. Generally speaking, Dim Sum is not expensive.
Be aware: The servers will most likely not speak English. If you need additional assistance, contact the Manager.
TIP: When your teapot is empty, just put the lid up, and someone will come by to refill it, no words needed.
