Happy Hours in San Diego
San Diego has many options and styles of happy hours that will suit your style and budget.
Many of San Diego's drinking establishments and restaurants offer free or near to free food to go along with your libation, while others price their alcohol at discount prices.
Here are some of our favorite places for happy hours according to the day of the week:
Mondays - O'Brien's Pub in Kearny Mesa serves $8 pitchers of their local and micro beers and $12 pitchers of strong ale pitchers. Their happy hour lasts from 4:30-10pm!

If you prefer to hang out in downtown, why not try the roof top bar at 6th and J called Jbar? Jbar is located on the roof of the very lovely Hotel Solamar which is part of the Kimpton Hotel Group. Jbar's happy hour lasts from 4:30-6:30pm and features beer on tap for $3, frozen cocktails for $5, and specially priced and delicious meat skewers and flat brad pizza. If you are looking for a more gourmet happy hour experience, then Jbar is the place.
Tuesdays - Why not head to Little Italy and grab a seat at The Waterfront Bar & Grill? The Waterfront is one of the few bars in San Diego that still offers free food. The Waterfront's legend is that it holds the oldest liquor license in San Diego. It is as popular as ever and it is located at 2044 Kettner Boulevard. They do not have a web site so if you need more information; please give them a call at (619) 232-9656.

The Prado

If you have been taking advantage of Balboa Park's Free Tuesdays, why not consider ending your day at The Prado and enjoying its happy hour specials? The Prado has a very lovely bar and terrace that serve the discounted appetizer and drink menu. It is a very popular happy hour because so many museum patrons and employees like to end their day there. Wednesdays - World Famous Restaurant and Bar in Pacific Beach serves $1.50 lobster tacos to go along with their cold cocktails and beers.

If you have never had a lobster taco, they are delicious and even more so at this price. Go ahead, order 3! Their happy hour begins at around 5pm. The best part about this location is that it is right on the boardwalk that lines Mission and Pacific Beach. If you are planning to attend Ocean Beach's popular Farmer's Market and want to begin or conclude your shopping with a cold beer, head over to one of San Diego's most unique happy hour locales, The Kaiserhof. This German restaurant and biergarten features many German beers on tap that are not found anywhere else. The happy hour is best enjoyed in their covered biergarten just outside of the restaurant. Traditional German music is piped into the tent and you cannot help but think that you are far, far away from Ocean Beach.
Happy hour specials include discounts on selected beers on tap (mugs and pitchers) and free appetizers (veggies, chicken wings, and potatoes). If you need more food than that, they also have a special bar menu. The Kaiserhof's happy hour runs Tuesdays-Fridays from 4pm-7pm. Parking at the Kaiserhof is easy since they have their own parking lot located in the back of the restaurant.
Thursdays - If you happen to find yourself in downtown La Jolla on a Thursday evening, head right into La Valencia's classic Whaling Bar for their happy hour special. What's the special? A free filet mignon sandwich with purchase of a cocktail at the regular price. However, this is not the kind of place where you pony up to the bar in your shorts and flip-flops. If you want casual, then go right across the street to Jose's Courtroom where there is always a happy hour going on from 4pm-6:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Fridays - Start the weekend off right and drive your car or hop on the San Diego Trolley to take advantage of

Casa Guadalajara

Casa Guadalajara's free Mexican appetizers and drink specials. This happy hour is very popular so be sure to head over early if you can. Casa Guadalajara's happy hour goes from 4pm-7pm, Monday-Friday. Please note that this bar and restaurant are owned the original owner of Old Town's former Bazaar del Mundo, Diane Powers. Naturally, there are many more happy hours in town. These happen to be some of our favorites and some of the locals' favorite places to wind down after a hard day's work or a long day at the beach. We plan to update this department as we continue to educate ourselves around town. Cheers!
