San Diego's La Jolla community is a beautiful setting for a hotel stay. There are three areas to stay within La Jolla: the Village, on or near the beach, and near the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Be sure to check which area of La Jolla appeals most to you and to your budget.
Hotels in the Village of La Jolla
La Valencia Hotel (1132 Prospect Street) - This is the quintessential hotel of La Jolla. Known as the "Jewel of La Jolla," the beautiful 1920's Spanish-style 11-story pink hotel is the place where many locals like to visit and also take their out-of-town visitors to look at.

La Valencia is known for more than just its beautiful Spanish garden surroundings, and its drop-dead gorgeous view of La Jolla Cove. The 115-room hotel is also known for its fine and casual dining, its old world bar (The Whaling Bar), its Spanish tiles, and its Spanish colonial furnishings. Valet service is provided and due to the lack of parking in the area, we suggest you let the nice young men park your car for you. Best Western Inn by the Sea (7830 Fay Avenue) - This centrally located 5-story hotel features 132 rooms with balconies, a heated outdoor pool, guest laundry, café/restaurant, and lounge. The beach is only a couple of blocks (down a hill) away. This hotel is good choice if your priorities are location and value. Empress Hotel of La Jolla (7766 Fay Avenue) - The elegant Empress Hotel is located just one block south of the Best Western Inn by the Sea. It is a European-style boutique 5-story hotel that has 73 rooms and offers fine dining at its own restaurant. Many locals actually go to this restaurant. This hotel is a good choice if you prefer location and décor.
The Grande Colonial Hotel of La Jolla (910 Prospect Street) - The Grande Colonial is perched on a hill that overlooks the Pacific Ocean and situated on one La Jolla's main roads, Prospect Street. This hotel, the oldest in La Jolla, features a Colonial Revival-style and has earned local praises for its commitment to historical preservation. The 5-story hotel features 75 rooms/suites, a fine dining restaurant, lounge, and an outdoor heated pool. Hotel Parisi (1111 Prospect Street) - The Parisi is the new kid on the block. Like the Grande Colonial and La Valencia, it is also located on Prospect Street. This hotel sets itself apart by offering its guests a more intimate boutique hotel experience. It also features full spa services, an allergen free atmosphere, and an emphasis on luxury. The Parisi is owned by Sami Ladecki who is the owner of Sammy's Woodfired Pizza (multiple locations) and also Roppongi (on Fay & Prospect).

Hotel La Jolla at the Shores (7955 La Jolla Shores Dr, La Jolla Shores) - The Hotel La Jolla at the Shores is located a few blocks away from the beach. The 11-story hotel is one of the tallest buildings in the area - the height of the building provides its guests with beautiful and expansive views of the ocean and the surrounding area. Amenities at the 104-room include a restaurant on the top floor, an outdoor pool and whirlpool. Plenty of parking is available on the hotel grounds and there is also a Starbucks located right on its property. La Jolla Shores Hotel (8110 Camino del Oro, La Jolla Shores) - This is the La Jolla Shores hotel that is actually located on the beach.

This hotel recently underwent a name change - it used to be called the Sea Lodge. In fact, most San Diegans are not even aware that there has even been a name change! So, if you tell people that you are staying here, they might look at your with a puzzled look. Just tell them it's the old Sea Lodge and they will then understand you. As for the hotel, its whole focus it on the beach. Even its restaurant, The Shores, offers guests a stunning view of the ocean. The hotel offers beach-side service (chairs, umbrellas, towels, and refreshments). For those guests who prefer pool water over sea water, the La Jolla Shores Hotel features an outdoor pool, and a whirlpool. La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club (2000 Spindrift Drive, La Jolla Shores) - One of the most exclusive beachfront hotels in San Diego is the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. It is a member's only club, not just a hotel. So many things are special and unique to the Beach & Tennis Club: its old Spanish style architecture, its exclusive use of part of the beach, its beach services (food and beverage service, chairs, tables, barbeques, and wind blocks), its tennis courts, its putt-putt golf course, its various restaurants, and a beautiful outdoor pool in a garden setting. The rooms have kitchens and ocean views. Parking is available on site and entrance to the hotel is limited to guests of the hotel and members of the club.

La Jolla Cove Suites (1155 Coast Blvd, La Jolla Cove) - Another beach in La Jolla is La Jolla Cove which is closer to the Village of La Jolla.
The La Jolla Cove Suites is situated directly across the street from The Cove. The 113-room hotel is kind of retro-looking which adds to its appeal. In addition to the great location, some of the amenities include balconies, onsite parking, a putting green, heated pool, whirlpool, and a racquetball/health club. La Jolla Beach Travelodge (6750 La Jolla Boulevard) - Another beach area in La Jolla is Windansea. Windansea comprises miles of a variety of sandy beach areas split by sandstone rock formations.

The Travelodge is located about 4-5 blocks away from the beach and right on one of San Diego's main thoroughfares, La Jolla Boulevard. It is not located in the village of La Jolla so please keep that in mind. Amenities include: suites and kitchenettes, a heated pool, a whirlpool, and laundry facilities.
Hotels Located Near UCSD/Torrey Pines Golf Course
Estancia Hotel & Spa (9700 North Torrey Pines Road, La Jolla) - La Jolla's newest hotel, the Estancia has received numerous hospitality awards for its surroundings and service. The 210 room-hotel is convenient located just across the street from the UCSD campus, 1 mile south of Torrey Pines Golf Course, and 3 miles from the village of La Jolla. The Estancia's resort-like setting has three (3) restaurants and bars, a full spa with fitness center, an outdoor pool with whirlpool, and a business center. Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines (10950 North Torrey Pines Road, La Jolla) - The Hilton Torrey Pines takes full advantage of its ocean views high atop the sandstone bluffs of Torrey Pines. The famous Torrey Pines Golf Course is located a stone's throw away. If you are planning to come to seek medical attention at Scripps Clinic, there is no closer hotel than the Hilton Torrey Pines - it is located right next door. The hotel property itself features: a restaurant and lounge, an outdoor pool with whirlpool, a fitness center, lighted tennis courts, and even a putting green. Lodge at Torrey Pines (11480 North Torrey Pines Road, La Jolla) - This hotel recently underwent a major renovation and is now an award-winning example of Craftsman design. The Lodge at Torrey Pines is the hotel of the Torrey Pines Golf Course which means that it is located on one of the most beautiful golf course locations in the world. The golf course is perched high atop the bluffs of Torrey Pines. The Lodge at Torrey Pines is not part of a national chain of hotels, it is owned by a local chain of hotels - the Evans Family (Bahia Hotel in Mission Bay and the Catamaran Hotel in Mission Beach). Simply put, the Lodge at Torrey Pines is a first-class 175-room hotel with meeting rooms. full-service spa, fitness center, an outdoor pool with whirlpool, two (2) great restaurants, a croquet lawn, and a beautiful lobby with a large fireplace that invites people to sit a spell. Residence Inn La Jolla by Marriott 8901 Gilman Drive La Jolla) - If you are planning to visit UCSD or the Torrey Pines area, the 288-room Residence Inn is a good option because it is located only 1/4 mile south of the campus. This is a business hotel that provides a free hot breakfast on weekdays, an evening social hour, high-speed Internet access, guest laundry and free newspaper delivery. Hyatt Regency La Jolla (3777 La Jolla Village Drive, La Jolla) - Although it is a bit further away from the UCSD campus, the 419-room Hyatt Regency is located in the heart of the "Golden Triangle" which is La Jolla's large commercial hub. It has a very modern look to it and the best part about the 16-story Hyatt is that it has 4 unique fine dining restaurants on its property. The Hyatt has a spa, fitness center, and an outdoor pool.
