Located directly across the I-5 from Sea World is a small section of town that features interesting restaurants that range from Cuban/Puerto Rican food to fresh seafood to Northern Italian. Recently, there has been signs of some renewal of the area with some restaurants finally getting some spit-shines and other newer restaurants setting down tables. These restaurants don't advertise much and you won't read much about them. But, if you like neighborhood places, and you are in the area... stop by.

Andrés Restaurant (1235 Morena Boulevard) - The first and only Cuban/Puerto Rican restaurant in town has been in operation for 23 years. The restaurant began as a little café and has gradually expanded to include a Latin American market and a banquet hall. When Latin American locals want a little piece of Havana or San Juan, this place they all go to. Andrés offers a variety of plantain side dishes that make a delicious accompaniment to their chicken, beef, and seafood dishes.

Bay Park Fish Company (4121 Ashton Street) - Located next to one of San Diego's best meat markets (as in cow, pig, and chicken, not people), Siesel's, the folks at the Bay Park Fish Company do their best to provide fresh seafood dishes at reasonable prices. This neighborhood restaurant is one of the few fresh seafood restaurants in the area and has been popular since it first opened its doors. Diners can enjoy fish tacos, grilled seafood plates, fish sandwiches, beer and wine. The sports-fisherman themed interior of this restaurant has a great, clean, and casual feel.

This is a real local's tip because locals and neighbors are the restaurant's main customers. After one expansion, this restaurant is getting ready to expand again! If you are feeling like having some seafood after being at Sea World with the kids, then consider having lunch or dinner at this restaurant just a short drive away across the I-5 freeway.

Baci Ristorante Italiano (1955 Morena Boulevard) - Many San Diegans consider Baci's to be one of their favorite restaurants in San Diego because of the attentive service, the intimate setting, and the exquisite Northern Italian food. Unlike Bay Park Fish Company, Baci's is not a place to eat at after being at Sea World. It is a place you dress up for - in San Diego, this means no shorts and no flip-flops. It is also a restaurant that invites you to sit down, order a cocktail before dinner, and relax. Reservations are recommended.
