Parking and Transportation in Balboa Park
Parking Parking is free and plentiful in Balboa Park. HOWEVER, make sure that your car is parked in its stall because City Parking Enforcement officers patrol the parking lots. Parking Enforcement is looking to ticket expired registration plates and cars that are not parked within their lines - we are not kidding. The easiest places to find parking are behind the Organ Pavilion and in front of the San Diego Zoo. If you park at one of the outlying lots, don't worry you can always catch the free Balboa Park Tram. Free Balboa Park Tram The free red Balboa Park tram stops at various locations, every day and every 8- 10 minutes. The tram makes its way through the park, stopping at most of the park's most popular destinations. They are the Prado, Sefton Plaza, Quince Street, the Organ Pavilion and Pan American Plaza. Two different routes operate so be careful that you are getting on the right tram. One tram loops around the Park and goes to the Naval Hospital Parking Lot off of Park Blvd. The other loops around the Park and goes to Sixth Avenue and Quince. As for the schedule, summer hours of operation are from June 1-October 31, Tuesday- Sunday from 8:15 a.m.-11:00 p.m. On Monday, the tram runs from 8:15 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Fall/Winter hours of operation are from November 1-May 31 daily, from 8:15 a.m.-5:15 p.m. A word of caution: the tram looks like an old trolley car - it is operated by the same people who run the "Old Town Trolley Tours" - so be careful that you are not joining a tour bus. The Balboa Park Trams are clearly marked as being the free tram so you should be just fine. The drivers are usually very nice and are happy to give directions and they also welcome your monetary tips.
