Shelter Island Hotels San Diego
Shelter Island hotels are located in a marina with great views of San Diego Bay.
Shelter Island is situated a mere 5-8 minute drive from San Diego's Airport. It is a man-made peninsula that is home to many boat marinas and yacht clubs, boating retail, boating services, several resort hotels, restaurants, walking paths, a fishing pier, and best of all, a panoramic view of downtown San Diego and the North Island Air Base.
When it was first constructed in the 1940-1950's, Shelter Island was built with the once popular Polynesian Tike theme. This theme can still be seen on the 'island': the wooden Tiki at Trader Mort's Liquor Store, the Bali Hai restaurant at the east end of the Island, and the volcanic rock walls along Shelter Island Drive. Over the years, Shelter Island has also become home to one of San Diego's most unique outdoor concert venues. Humphrey's concerts by the Bay, now in its 28th year is located at Humphrey's Half Moon Inn.

Humphrey's Half Moon Inn

The venue is enjoyed by both the artist and audience because it is located right next to a marina. The concert season lasts from May-October and provides hotel residents with a chance to hear a live concert from inside or outside their rooms. Don't worry; the concerts are over before 10:00 p.m.! If you love the outdoors, sunsets, boats and great live music.. book some tickets before you come to town. If you want the locals experience, borrow or rent a tiny boat and paddle to the outside of the venue, watch/listen to the concert from the water.
Located just west of Humphrey's is the newly renovated Best Western Island Palms. Choose from either standard rooms or larger suites at this two-story facility. Like the other hotels on Shelter Island, you can't beat the location. The Island Palms has its own marina, a restaurant, and of course a pool. Be sure to check their site for special package deals.

Kona Kai

Another good option for accomodations on Shelter Island is the Kona Kai Resort, located at the tip of Shelter Island. The Kona Kai offers visitors a chance to get away from it all - there is nothing else near by the hotel besides boat marinas and the Harbor Police's headquarters. It is very quiet except for the occasional noise coming from the seals who dwell on the bouys nearby.
