View of Downtown San Diego From a Secret Park in Coronado
Tip of the Week: September 1, 2007
San Diego's skyline has significantly changed in recent years. If you want to take a good gander at the evolving skyline, escape from the San Diego perspective and get the Coronado view of things, then off to Coronado you go!
Most people know about Centennial Park, though we may not know it by it's name. This is the large park near the Ferry Landing on Coronado (at Orange Avenue between First Street and San Diego Bay), near The Landing condominiums. The park is 49,000 sq.feet and has a great panoramic view.
But, what you might not find on your own is "I" Avenue Park-Bayview Park. This tiny 9500 sq. foot park is tucked at the foot of "I" Avenue at First Avenue. It is a tranquil, beautiful spot between squeezed between two
homes.
It has a fantastic view of the Bay and the downtown San Diego skyline in a very quie, almost secret location. When you are on the bench at this place, the rest of the world drops away behind and around you and makes the view of San Diego"pop out" even more.
Sneak over there... you'll be glad you did. Oh, and yes, you can take the to
Ferry Coronado and take the short saunter (.6 mile) to the north on First Avenue to get to the park. The streets are alphabetical going toward North Island Air Station. Don't be fooled by the first little park you stumble upon. That is the SDGE Park. Keep walking/driving north to "I" Avenue. You'll be glad you did.
