Wine Tastings in San Diego
Tip of the Week: June 16, 2007
When it comes to wine, San Diego is quickly gaining stride.
With tasting bars abound, Temecula Valley Wine Country
about one hour northeast, and fine dining restaurants polishing
all their wine glasses and upper-end bottles, where can you go
to just pony up to bar and taste and not have to commit to an
all-day event or spend a lot of money?
We'll give you two tips:
Wine Steals: Wine Steals is a very successful and casual place.
Every Saturday 4-6:30pm, try about 25 tastes for $10.00. Reds,
whites, try 'em all and enjoy yourself. Wine Steals has two locations.
You can find them at Liberty Station, Point Loma or Hillcrest
on University Avenue. Get there early because at these prices,
they attract crowds.
Tuesdays- $5 Wine Tastings Hillcrest - 5:30-7:00
Wednesdays- $5 Wine Tastings Point Loma - 5:30-7:00
Saturday- $10 tastings 4- 6:30pm
Sundays- Half-price red and white wine flights. 2pm until it's gone!

San Diego Wine Co. (7080 Miramar Road, Ste 100- San Diego): Now, while Wine Steals is more of
a bar that sells wine, San Diego Wine Co., is more of a
wine retailer that has wine tastings. Every weekend, San
Diego Wine Co., tucked away in a commercial zone,
uncorks their wine selections upstairs at their stand-up bar.
Join them on Saturdays between 10am-4:30pm for
tastings under $15.00 depending on what is being
offered.
It is a different experience, but both offer something
that might be just what you were looking for in
simple wine tastings and retail. Cheers!
San Diego Wine Co. is a little tricky to find so follow
the directions:
From the 805 freeway going North or South take the Miramar
Rd exit (it only heads east from the 805). The second light is
Eastgate Mall, take a left at the Union 76 station. Drive
1/2 mile down, on the right hand side, 5282 Eastgate Mall.
