San Diego has many transportation options but it does have its shortcomings when it comes to public transportation.
There are alternatives you can try but this is one city where renting a car is probably best, especially if you want to explore many areas. If you want to try to stay in one particular area, we'd suggest picking an area that is pedestrian-friendly and has some public transportation.
